Mea Culpa

My apologies for misunderstanding that the suspect had been apprehended. When they announced that the lockdown was lifted, I made an erroneous assumption. I need to accept that I am not a reporter, I only want to share important information like the alert to tell everyone to go inside and lock their doors.

For accurate, up-to-date information on the progress in this story, I urge you to turn to news sources like WMUR, The Keene Sentinel or the Brattleboro Reformer. Their staff does a much better job than I do.

In the meantime, while we hope there will be no future need, I continue to be here if alerts become necessary.

    Thanks, Lil.

As a former reporter, one simple piece of advice I can offer you is simply to cite your source and don’t interpret: “John Doe at the sheriff’s office in Keene told me at 2 o’clock that a suspect has not yet been apprehended and police are searching for him in the field behind the Jones farm off Route 12.”

It’s especially important for you not to present your beliefs as facts; you may not be a reporter in the strict sense but you got news out faster than anyone else to people who needed to know what you had to say and I’m sure nearly all of us really appreciate your quick action.

    Thank you!

Good to know, Hugh. They never told me about that in my EdAdim classes!

Lil! You offer us an invaluable service. Your announcements should prompt everyone to learn more by going to those sources you mentioned. Without your alert, I would have been 100% clueless that an incident was unfolding. We so appreciate what you do for us here in Walpole.
