Easter Eggstravaganza!!
At The Market This Week

Lengthening daylight hours inspire hens to ramp up their egg laying. Our last “winter” market features an egg theme in honor of the hard working hen and her gift of eggs. It’s coming up Saturday, 4/19, in the Town Hall, from 11 am to 1 pm.

Hooper Institute educators Eloise Clark and Rebecca Whippie will be on hand to teach us how to dye Easter eggs using onion skins and other natural products. 4-H members plan to bring a guest bunny and a few pullets for everyone to enjoy. Easter egg games for the young and young at heart are planned.

chicks and eggsAmie (Amie Art Farm) has drawn 4 sketches that make fabulous coloring sheets. Crayons will be provided and kids will be offered one sheet for free. Additional sheets will be available for a free will donation to help offset the expense of providing music for the summer markets.

baby lettucesSunset Farm, Hillside Springs Farm and Abenaki Springs Farm are planning to be on hand with root vegetables and the freshest of tasty, tender spring greens. The greens sold out quickly at the last market!

You’ll also find a few cool weather garden transplants. Frank expects to have some cole crop starts. Judy will bring early spring onion starts, as well as yarrow and lovage plants.

There will be a variety of meats and cheeses, and it’s not too late to call your favorite farmer and arrange for something special for your Easter dinner.

bottles of merlotA number of vendors that we haven’t seen for a while will be making return appearances. Virginia, Walpole Winery, will bring “Barnett Hill Blush,” a perfect pairing with Easter ham dinner, and a few other strong contenders.

CMC Mushrooms will have both fresh mushrooms and cream of mushroom soup.

Judi Ryner of Old Kemp Farm will be back with her alpaca products, including soft felted bunnies and felted egg soaps.

Susan Leader will be back with her practical household pottery (which is serendipitous for me since my favorite one of her bowls recently found itself in much too abrupt contact with the floor).

Grab the kids and come on out for some eggcellent family fun and great shopping!
