DISTANT HILL GARDENS – 6/6/15

Bird Walk & Open Garden Weekend

Open Garden Weekend with Guided Garden Tours and a Morning Birdwalk

A Garden Path

Distant Hill Gardens will be hosting their first Open Garden Weekend of 2015 on Saturday, June 6 from 9 am to 4 pm, and Sunday, June 7 from 8 am to 4 pm.

Come and tour the gardens on your own either day, or join Michael Nerrie, the designer and builder of Distant Hill Gardens, on one of four guided tours offered that weekend. He will talk about the design process used to develop the gardens including the large raised bed vegetable garden, discuss the cultivation of native plants transplanted from the property, and answer any questions you may have about the flora, fauna, the diverse wetlands and the unique geological features found on the 58-acre property.

Avian Opera Star

In addition to the Saturday and Sunday garden tours, there will be a bird-walk on Sunday morning, from 8 am to 10 am.

Longtime birder Wendy Ward will lead a leisurely walk through the fifty-eight acres of forests and fields in search of our avian friends, the Birds of Distant Hill Gardens.

There’s a good chance we will see or hear Chestnut-sided Warblers.

We will be looking for interesting species, as well as learning how to identify some of the birds by their songs. Bring binoculars if you have them, but if you are new to birding and don’t have a pair, there will be a few pairs to loan.
