Great River Co-op Harvest Dinner – 10/16/16

grc-event-photo

The Great River Co-op is proud to partner with the Bellows Walpole Inn to present an evening in celebration of local food! Join us for a harvest dinner featuring delicious ingredients from local farmers and producers to raise money for the new Great River Co-op store!  The more money the co-op raises through gifts and the sale of shares, the less money the store will have to pay in interest and instead can use its cash to create a better store.

The evening will begin with a “Know your Farmers” cocktail hour where you can mingle with area growers, learn more about the store’s progress, and find out how you can help!

Your ticket will include a multi-course meal that highlights and celebrates the hard work and expertise of the growers and producers in our Great Falls Region.

If you would like to contribute to the dinner, sponsor the event, or provide an item for the silent auction, please email us at info@greatriverfoodcoop.com.

Walpole Community CROP Hunger Walk – 10/8/16

Walpole Community CROP Hunger Walk to be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Registration starts at 9:00 am and walk begins at 9:30 am.

With the aim of “Ending hunger one step at a time,” the Walpole Community CROP Hunger Walk has set a goal of 50 Walkers and hopes to raise $5,000 to help stop hunger and poverty here in our community and around the world, through self-help initiatives.  A portion of the funds raised here in Walpole will go to the Fall Mountain Food Shelf.

2015-crop-walk-group-shotLast year, 26 Walkers raised more than $3,500 in their locally organized CROP Hunger Walk.

The goals of the interfaith CROP Hunger Walk are many: To raise funds to help hungry people; to raise awareness of hunger as an issue; to engage and train volunteers for community service; and to engage a broad cross-section of the community—persons of many ages and backgrounds—in service to the neediest of the world.

Donations to the Walpole CROP Hunger Walk are tax-deductible and can be made online. Please consider joining one of the existing Walpole CROP Hunger Walk teams, or create your own—if you can’t walk, you can still register as a team member and help us fundraise! Registration and donation information is available at http://www.crophungerwalk.org/walpolenh or by contacting Ellie Shaw at 756-4866.

September 3 – October 22
In his paintings, the artist’s methodical layering of color achieves resonant tonal hues, and manifests a rigorous grounding in a meditation on breath. To create his subtle ombré surfaces, Chen works with the canvas on the studio floor. He layers the paint in precisely calibrated vertical brushstrokes; the discrete horizontal lines visible on the surface are a record of where each brushstroke – and attendant breath – begins.

Famous as the author of “Little Women” and other books for young people, Louisa May Alcott was raised in the intellectual and philosophical center of Concord, Massachusetts, home of Emerson, Thoreau, and her father Amos Bronson Alcott, the leader of the Transcendental movement. Shaped by early experimental education and an untraditional family life, Alcott became a staunch supporter of abolition, women’s suffrage, and better education and employment for women.

Based on her journals and writings, the life of this remarkable woman, who supported her family from the age of seventeen, has been shaped into an exciting theatrical experience.
