Did You Know? – 4/1/14

“Did You Know” are messages sent from FMRHS to better communicate what is happening at our high school.
April 1, 2014
  • Our seniors will be graduating Saturday, June 14 at 10:00am.
  • In addition to athletics, our high school offers 18 different clubs for our students to be involved. Some of these clubs have taken students to foreign countries such as El Salvador, Spain, France, and Italy.
  • With this year’s change to our advisory program: TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More), more students have been successful in their pursuit of academic excellence.
  • FMRHS’s robotics club,The Robocats, competed in Hartford, CT this past weekend. Although the team came in 28th out of 39 teams, our team scored 180 points more than our competition at UNH three weeks ago. The team has a combined record of 16 wins, 13 loses.

Y-Aspire date correction

The program is THIS Thursday, which is 4/3, not 5/3 as the original post indicated.  Guess I was trying to get closer to summer by just ignoring the month of April.  Who can blame me? – Lil

Y-Aspire Invites You to International Night – 4/3/14

To culminate their March theme of “Our World” at Y-ASPIRE at Walpole Schools, the participants and staff invite the community to their International Night this Thursday. The event takes place from 5:30-6:30 in the Walpole Primary School’s Community Room.

Y-ASPIRE participants will share international foods they prepared and lead everyone in “Around the World Bingo”. They’ll also talk about the countries they “visited” during the month and share entries from the journals they kept during their travels. In addition, local children’s author Laurel Smith will be reading, selling and signing copies of her latest book, Olivia Goes to Bolivia.

Meeting Waters YMCA’s Program Director Sue Fortier will also be on-hand to provide information and answer questions about Y Day Camp, for which there is bussing every day from Walpole and North Walpole.

So that the young people know how much food to prepare and how many people to expect, you are asked to RSVP at info@meetingwatersymca.org or 802-463-4769.

April Fool’s Day, Reason Number 4

#4 – People might believe you!

Barbara Kasper just called to tell me she had sent a coomment on my April Fool’s Day post. Apparently, Michelle Rios said she had received phone calls regarding the Walpole Salon’s move to L.A. Some people did, in fact, believe Barbara’s story.  You will be relieved to know that The Walpole Village Salon, is here to stay.  The story was only an April Fool’s joke like those that make you look when there is nothing there! – Lil

A Correction on the Plant Sale

Pam Howard just called to say that the last day for donating plants for the Plant Sale is Thursday, May 8th.  It may be a little early to start digging but it never hurts to plan ahead! – Lil

April 1, 2014

Just to be sure that no one will be disappointed, I wanted to let you know that there will be no April Fools’s Day musings tomorrow in “The Walpolean”.   There are three reasons for this.

#1 Chuck moved to California.

#2 “The Clarion” did an excellent job in this regard and I’m afraid to compete.

#3  After years of being in the schools on April first, I am weary of looking for something that is only an April Fool’s Joke.  With retirement, comes privileges!

Have a great day. – Lil

CASA Needs Volunteers

Antonia Andreoli posted this as a comment but I’m not sure how many people check out all the comments so I am reporting.  Just a reminder, you can shoot me an email, ltdecoste@comcast.net when you wish to have me post something. – Lil

CASA needs volunteers! This is a program that is invisible to most of us – it stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate – fancy name for Guardian ad Litem – someone appointed by the court to speak for the children and teens who are victims of abuse and/or neglect. I have been doing this for nearly 9 years, and it is very rewarding. I have one case that I’ve had for more than two years, a young man in foster care with specific career goals who is doing very well – I saw him today at one of the regular hearings to check his progress (every 3 to 6 months). I try to visit him once a month, and to check in with his school, foster mom, and social worker. There is training session starting soon – it’s not hard. Call Antonia Andreoli 756-9036 if you are interested and want to know more, or call the CASA Supervisor in the Keene Office – Joseph Smith 358-4012.
