Site Updates

Since I took over as the administrator of The Walpolean two years ago, I have tried to keep changes to a minimum for continuity’s sake. However, I have made a few key updates recently that I hope folks will find useful.

There is now an Events Calendar in the menu. This feature should make it easier for readers to find information about upcoming community activities. There is a drop-down menu at the top of the calendar (where it says “Choose View”) that offers a variety of display options, from a traditional calendar format to a daily, weekly, or monthly list. Clicking on an event will open a pop-up that contains a link to the full post.

Last year The Walpolean passed an impressive milestone: 20 years of keeping the community up to date. While I have not been able to bring all of the old posts into the current WordPress installation, I was able to create links to many of them using the Wayback Machine. On the desktop version of the site, these can be found in the sidebar. It’s fun to look back and see how much has changed, and how much has stayed the same, in our little town. I’ve also updated the About page to give new readers an idea of how the site has evolved over the years.

Now, a little housekeeping. I’ve noticed that since the most recent WordPress update, the site is no longer displaying properly on some mobile devices. This is likely due to the site’s “theme” being outdated and no longer fully compatible with the newer versions of WordPress. With that in mind, I’m on the hunt for a more current theme that will restore mobile functionality. In the future, the desktop version of the site may look slightly different, but all the content will be the same.

As always, please feel free send me your news and events, as well as any comments or concerns you may have about the site. You can use the Contact Form or email me at thewalpolean@gmail.com. Thanks for reading!

Kelli, this is fantastic. So happy you volunteered to keep this community service going and now you’ve added so much more. Can’t wait to see the new theme.
