Each issue of THE WALPOLE CLARION brings you stories of past events, and news of future events. But, in all likelihood, for the May issue, there will be no stories of past events from April to report on, nor news of upcoming events in May. Life as we have known it has changed. But here is an invitation to you. I see the pages of the CLARION as documenting what has happened within the Walpole community. My hope is that years from now people may pick up an old copy and reflect on what happened. My invitation? Your contribution to the May issue documenting what life has been like for you during the Stay at Homeorder during the COVID-19 crisis. I am sure that our student reporters will have something to share, but wouldn’t it be nice to hear from a cross-section of residents and how they have dealt with isolation, shopping for necessities, loss of income, and business shutdowns. I see writing as a catharsis – it provides some relief from stress. Committing words and thoughts to paper (or to a word processing program) documents life, and helps focus your thoughts. So think about it. Write something down, even if only a journal for your own memory. Start writing down your memories now. And, if you wish, submit your 300-350 words by April 20 for possible inclusion in the May CLARION to be shared with our special community. Thank you, RAY BOAS, Publisher |

Library Books
Please no library books on the new shelves by the door. Hold the library books until we are open again. Drop off a book or movie that you own and are willing to share and take one in return. Enjoy.

This information came from Antonia Andreoli regarding tomorrow’s virtual service for the Unitarian Church. I admit to being very ignorant about Zoom so I can’t explain what it all means. I’m sure Antonia can help though. – Lil
Here is the Zoom meeting link for Sunday’s service with Linda Goodman. The link will be live at 9:45 so folks can get settled and ask any questions about the Zoom process. Also, attached is the order of service and lyrics to the hymn.

Good morning. I hope you are well and staying home. Our church is conducting online services now. Sister churches have seen an increase of 200 – 500% attendance online versus in church services. If you don’t object please post the Zoom link to the service tomorrow at 10 AM. Of course you could refer questions to me at my email, cpshaw45@gmail.com. Thank you, Chuck

Alert for Small Business Owners
Small Business Owners Guide to the CARES Act
Small Business Owners,
This evening, I received an 11 page document from Governor Shaheen’s office titled “Small Business Owners Guide to the CARES Act.” It outlines the various programs which might help small business owners under the brand new Act. Unfortunately, it is in PDF format, and cannot be posted on The Walpolean. If you would like a copy, please email me at Lwmcv@comcast.net and I will send the guide to you by reply email.

Library up-date
Dear Walpole Community,
The Walpole Town Library will be ceasing curbside pickup service after Saturday March 28th. We are so saddened to have to stop this much loved service, but we are taking the Governor’s Stay-At-Home orders seriously. The library building will be closed and staff will continue working from home as we create new services to help you get through this chaotic time. Please continue to email me with any questions or concerns at jfafara@walpoletownlibrary.org. If you need your library card information to access our databases or downloadable materials, feel free to email me as well or reach out to Julie at jrios@walpoletownlibrary.org.
Thank you all for your continued support of the library. We look forward to seeing your smiling faces again in May.
Justine Fafara
Library Director
What is an Essential Service?
So now that anyone not in an essential service is staying at home, exactly what is an essential service? There is actually a very long list of businesses deemed essential. Among the essential categories are Law and Order, Food, Health and Human Services, Energy, Waste and Wastewater, Transportation, Public Works, Communications and Internet, Other Community-Based Essential Functions, Hazardous Materials, Manufacturing, Financial Services, Chemical, and Defense Industry.
You can find the full list, with lots more detail in each category, here:
https://www.governor.nh.gov/news-media/emergency-orders/documents/emergency-order-17.pdf
If your business is not included in the full list, and you think it should be, there is this Special Note for you.
- Special Note
If the function of your business is not listed above, but you believe that it is essential or it is an entity providing essential services or functions, you may request designation as an essential business.
Requests by businesses to be designated an essential function should only be made if they are NOT covered by the guidance.
These requests should be submitted to essential@nheconomy.com and include basic contact information and a brief justification.
A Helping Hand
Our local young people are here for us. What a nice offer they are making. – Lil
If any of you need assistance getting groceries, my friends (Chelsey Patch, Gabe Andrus, Brendan Reagan, and Maddie Beadury) and I would be happy to help. If you’re interested, send me an email with your address, phone number and a grocery list (with around 10 items or so) for either Shaw’s or Burdick’s Grocery.
We’ll try to make this as “distant” as possible. After we pick up the groceries, we’ll call to tell you the amount, you’ll put a check for said amount outside your door, and then we’ll take the check and leave the groceries.
Let me know if you have any questions!
