Thanksgiving Market 9-2
on the Common Tomorrow

On Saturday November 21, 2015 Walpole New Hampshire is the place to be for Localvores, Foodies, and those of you looking for “Just the Perfect Holiday Gift”. Our community brings out its finest handmade treasures and locally produced foods, and gift items. The Walpole Farmers Market, 1st Congregational Church, and St. John’s Church will be open around the Walpole Common from 9 to 2. Come shop for those special locally grown ingredients that will make your Holiday Meals even more special. There will be handmade gift items and greens, trees, and wreaths too.

BUT that’s not all; The Orchard School’s 20th Annual Crafts Fair will fill the Walpole Town Hall, come visit with artisans from across the region, do a little holiday shopping and support a wonderful organization too. The same can be said for crafters and local sales at the Sugar Plumb Shoppe at the Walpole Village School, just down Westminister Street from the Town Hall. Finally, the Walpole Historical Society will open its gift shop where you can find the most perfect hostess gift to bring to holiday parties and the like.

At this point we will have local breads, cheese, maple syrup and maple products, grassfed beef and lamb, honey and wax products. As well as jams, jellies and other condiments. The French Club from the Grammar School in Putney will be with us fundraising for a trip to France, they will be serving both sweet and savory crepes.

Shoppers that visit each venue will be able to sign up for a FREE raffle door prize at some locations, chances to win some fabulous gift items for yourself or to share with others.

So come to Walpole on Saturday November 21st, in the morning, shop, enjoy a light snack or lunch, treat yourself to a prepared meal for family dinner. Enjoy the start of this wonderful season, shopping locally, supporting local farmers, and local organizations that help our community year round.

Good News for the Library

The NH Charitable Foundation Awards Grant

to the

Friends of the Walpole Town Library

The Friends of the Walpole Town Library are very pleased to announce the receipt of a New Hampshire Charitable Foundation grant for $1,000.  This generous support of the Walpole Town Library is provided by the Ira S. and Gertrude S. Hubbard Memorial Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.  This is the second year in a row that we have received this grant that helps to fund our local library.

Established in 1962, the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation seeks to build a stronger, more just, and resilient Granite State.  In pursuit of this vision, the Foundation invests charitable assets to connect donors to effective organizations, ideas and people, and leads and collaborates on important public issues.  Annually, the Foundation awards nearly 5,000 grants and scholarships totaling $30 million. Book Sale Wrap-up and Thank You

Friends of the Walpole Town Library Book Sale

The Friends of the Library would like to sincerely thank all of the many people who helped make this year’s book sale such a big success.  It takes many volunteers working many hours attending to numerous details to organize and run this large annual event.  In particular, we would like to thank Teragram Properties for allowing us to use space at the former RN Johnson’s facility to sort and pack the thousands of books that were donated to the sale.  A special thank you also goes to Fall Mountain Regional High School’s ROTC students.  They helped set up the sale at the Walpole School, carrying many heavy boxes and tables.  And, of course, a huge thank you to all who donated books, and to those who attended the sale!  The total profit from the book sale this year was about $6000!

We would also like to remind the community that we are in the midst of our annual membership drive.  You likely received a postcard in the mail from us seeking your membership donation.  If you did not receive this card, please feel free to stop by the library to make your donation.  Any amount would be very much appreciated!  All of the funds raised by the Friends of the Library support the purchase of books and other materials for the library, and various library programs.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our local library!

No Christmas Carol but…

Cast

A CHRISTMAS CAROL for 2015 Cancelled — but read on….

Mr. Dickens will not be in Walpole this December to read his classic tale, A CHRISTMAS CAROL.  You may recall that last year the show, produced and directed by Ray Boas and Tara Sad, was short of cast members and almost cancelled. The required additional actors were found, however, and the 7th annual production went on.

Sadly, this year only 25 percent of the needed forty people arrived to audition. Previous cast members had moved, others told us of conflicting plans, and many of the younger cast members have grown out of their parts and are involved in other school activities. In an email to all Walpole Players and friends, Ray and Tara reported, “It is with heavy hearts that there will not be A CHRISTMAS CAROL this year. … A CHRISTMAS CAROL has always been a gift from the Walpole Players to the town, and one that we hope you have all enjoyed. … We will be encouraging contributions from the community to the Fall Mountain Food Shelf and Our-Place Drop-In Center to help make up the loss from the production this holiday season.” It was a great seven-year run, bringing $24,197 in cash donations to the Fall Mountain Food Shelf and Our-Place Drop-In Center.

Out of disappointment and discussion, however, a plan was hatched to allow The Walpole Players’ audiences to continue to make their donations to the food shelves, while at the same time helping to support our town retailers during this festive season.

Details on our 8th Annual Fundraiser for
area Food Shelves will be announced shortly

Did You Know?

Did you know that if you Comment on a post and wish to, you can receive an email whenever someone else comments on that post. Just noticed that today.

I also heard from someone today that did not receive an email when I did the earlier post today. I have heard others say the same and the common theme seems to be gmail accounts. Not sure what setting you might need to change to avoid that. Perhaps some other reader can help. – Lil
