Summer Art Program for Kids – Starts 7/8/25

From Marilyn Wilking. Marilyn says, “We still have room for more young folks to sign up for a six week summer art program that starts this Tuesday, July 8th!”

SUMMER ART FOR KIDS

Free program

Tuesdays July 8th – August 12th

9 – 11 am

For ages 6 – 11 yrs

Emphasis on nurturing imagination, building community and encouraging creativity

Held at St. John’s Parish Hall (“the stone church”) supported by donations and the Richard Schmid Fine Art Foundation

Register at artinfo@stjohnswalpole.org as space is limited to 20

• Plan to arrive before 9 AM to complete registration, get name tag, and meet volunteers.

• We may/will get messy so old clothes that can handle permanent art materials (paint etc.) are advised. We have some smocks and old t-shirts but kids may prefer to bring their own (old large shirt from a parent).

• Our teachers are trained in art (BFA degrees) and have experience working with children. They will also talk briefly about art history while children have a small snack. They will be assisted by adult volunteers.

• If you can help with providing snack, that would be greatly appreciated. See handout with suggested snacks and signup sheet.

• We will want to know who is picking up your child from each session.

• If your child will not be attending, please let me know by phone or text.

July 2025 Clarion Now Online

From Ray Boas:

The July 2025 Clarion is now online and ready to go to the post offices for delivery. Sadly fewer pages this month. There were few submissions of recent past happenings, and not much seems to be planned for the next month. Remember, if you do have an event to share with the community, submit your article for possible inclusion in the next issue.

But for now, click on this link for the issue or the front cover below. Stay safe and well, yours– RAY BOAS, Publisher.

Repost: Old Home Days Nature Outings – 6/28 & 6/29

[Editor’s Note: Something went wrong with the formatting on the initial version of this post, which made the text difficult to read. I’m re-posting to make sure everyone gets a chance to hear about these wonderful events! – Kelli]

In connection with Old Home Days, the Walpole Conservation Commission and the Walpole Trail Committee, are offering several nature outings for the community.

Saturday, 6/28, from 8:30 to 10:00 am, Chris Liazos, an Antioch University MS graduate student, will lead a birding walk around town on behalf of the Conservation Commission.  To join the walk, please come to the Conservation Commission booth on the Common at 8:30 am.

Sunday, 6/29, the Walpole Trail Committee invites you to visit the Gateway, the town-owned property nestled against the Connecticut River across Route 12 from South Street.  At 7 am, Sharyn Tullar will lead a birding outing next to the river.  Bring your own binoculars.  At 10 am, there will be a guided hike along the Gateway River Ramble, a short new trail with outstanding views of the Connecticut River.  The meeting spot for both events is the kiosk at the top of the hill.  Dress for an outdoor adventure (comfortable shoes, tick and insect protection, etc.)

On Saturday, the Conservation Commission and the Trail Committee will have side-by-side booths on the west side of the Common opposite the Congregational Church.  Please visit us to learn more about conservation and trails in Walpole.

July 2025 Clarion Closing Date – 6/21/25

From Ray Boas:

A packed two weeks with OLD HOME DAYS approaching the end of the month – make sure to get involved. But also I am now starting work on the JULY issue of the CLARION. Inputs for your articles are due Saturday, June 21, 5 pm (Walpole time). The files will go to the printer on Monday the 23rd. Make sure to visit the CLARION website for contact information, and article and advertising submission details.

Your early submissions help as I start developing the layout well before the closing date. If you have some “news” send it along. I also like to have on-hand material of interest that is not time-sensitive to fill space to round out a pleasing issue. So, if you would “like to be in print” and have something to write and share (images as well), send along for possible inclusion space permitting. Please do remember, it is the advertisers in each issue that make this community publication possible, so please support and thank them.

If you have any questions, or interest in placing an advertisement, reaching over 1,900 Walpole, North Walpole and Drewsville addresses, I welcome your inquiries, so please do get in touch with me. Advertising information and contact information is on the CLARION website.

Thank you, RAY BOAS, Publisher

Fall Mountain Nordic Ski Teams Fundraiser – 6/28/25

From Holly Gowdy:

Fall Mountain Ski Teams offer Cow Poop Bingo at Walpole Old Home Days

The Fall Mountain Nordic Ski Teams are holding a fundraiser during Walpole Old Home Days. They will be having a COW on the Common Saturday June 28th. When she POOPS one lucky winner could receive $1,000.00.

Ski Team members have about 300 bingo raffle tickets for sale, they have started selling them and will continue to sell them right through Saturday, June 28th during the Old Home Day Parade.

The plan is to set up a “Bingo Card” on the grass at the South end of the Walpole Common. The cow will be in a small pen to take in the parade and then she will be released out onto the game board, as she wanders around grazing she will eventually have to poop, and wherever the poop lands will mark the square and we will have a WINNER.

Tickets will be available for sale on some Saturdays during June! At the Walpole Post Office on June 7th and/or at the Walpole Recycling Center, on Saturday June 14th . . . If we still have tickets to sell we will be at the Block Party and/or the Street Dance . . . don’t delay, as we have sold out before the parade the last couple of times we have done this.

The Fall Mountain Ski Teams are always grateful for the support from our community, THANK YOU!
