Corbin’s Animal Garden Presentation at the Library – 10/14/26

Discover the wild history of Newport’s own Gilded Age estate!
In the late 1800s, wealthy businessman Austin Corbin returned to Newport,
New Hampshire. He built a massive estate and bought up
neighboring farms to create a giant 22,000-acre private wildlife park.
He filled it with exotic animals like boar, bison, elk, and antelope.
The park became a famous hunting ground for historic guests, including
Theodore Roosevelt, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and Joe DiMaggio.
Join us for a fascinating presentation featuring rare, old photographs.
We will explore the complicated legacy of Austin Corbin and look at
how his family—along with naturalist Ernest Baynes—helped save the American bison from extinction.
