At 7pm on 8/17/2026 voters met at the Town Hall to vote on just one Article. The article was in regard to the Town acquiring a 3 million dollar Bond to help build a new Police Station.
The results of the Special Town Meeting are as follows:
There were 175 ballots cast.
104 were in favor of the Article.
71 were not in favor of the Article.
To pass an Article regarding a Bond, a 3/5 majority is required.
3/5 of 175 ballots is 105.
Therefore, the Article was NOT passed, because 105 votes in favor were needed but only 104 were cast in favor.

As a newer, and first time, homeowner, I found your synopsis of the situation quite informative and helpful.
I also feel for our police and want to move forward exploring more cost-efficient options of supporting them.
Do we have to stick with the grant or could we throw it out and start afresh with an analysis of what Walpole needs (and then build that) leaving room for expansion when/if we need it down the line?
While I have complete respect for not going back on three years of discussions, I was also a little disappointed that some folks in the community felt because they had participated for three years, any discussion/questions from newcomers or any questions that were seemingly unresolved — like that of ICE’s potential use of the building — were unwarranted, and summarily and quite literally shouted down.
There should be dissent allowed on all sides as it’s through that dialogue and polite “arguing it out,” that solutions emerge. Tangible. Feasible. Solutions.
